After a hectic couple of months, Goa proved to be a welcome break! Have you gone to Goa during rains? It’s magical. And the off-season rates help too. Road trip, strategy meetings and fun all rolled into one – that’s what this trip was.
We Indians no Q
One of our animators, Vijay, created this short movie in a jiffy one day. Apparently he was miffed at the way people got ahead of him while he was waiting for his turn at a bus stop. Yeah, I know – Where does he think he is, right? Hello, this is India – we don’t believe in basic courtesies. So here’s the advice I gave him, army style: ‘Come on, be a man, Vijay. Qs are for sissies – Next time, I want to see you push your way thru, trampling those little kids, ladies and anyone who comes between that seat in the bus and you, Got it?’. And I made him do this little video that I could put up on this blog to get your views on the topic. Vijay thinks such silly little niceties should still be followed. Me thinks ‘If you can’t beat them, join them’. What do you think?

Flash player to stitch SWFs and play as a single movie
So you are looking for a Flash player very similar to the FLV player. You would like a player that stitches a sequence of scenes (SWF files) together, and play it as one single movie. You would definitely like to have a scrubber bar, a Play/Pause button, and a Mute button. Oh, yeah – and you are in the AS3 world. Well, your search ends here. Download the code, read the readme.txt file enclosed in the zip file, do what you got to do and take the rest of the day off. As simple as that. And we could do with some dollars…err…nice words if you found it useful. Especially Karun, our guy who wrote up all that code.

It’s one year (and 1 month) since we started Semnox. Guess what: time does fly! We got together for our first real ‘off-site’ meeting – you know, the one where (usually, sales) people come together and splurge on whatever profits the company made that year. No, I am just kidding. We all know that’s not true (wink, wink). Well, this was one where we discussed what went well, what we could do better and had some plain old-fashioned fun. One thing we missed carrying was a good camera, so please bear with us while we show you a couple of very shabby, grainy, mobile phone(y) pictures from the off-site here.
Free Flash Code: Flash AS3 Quiz
Now, here’s a quiz application developed in Flash AS3 (courtesy Karunakar B, Senior Software Engineer at Semnox). This application reads the questions and answers from an xml file, and hence is easy to configure and use. The best part is that you don’t even need to know Flash to set up your own online quiz. But if you are indeed deep into Flash, you could work on the look and feel department to make the application snazzier. You are free to download the code and use it as you please. As a courtesy, you could leave a comment here for Karunakar if you find the application useful. If you have any questions, we would be glad to answer.
